Many people in England and Wales were rudely awoken from their slumbers recently by the biggest earthquake to hit Britain in almost a quarter of a century. Cottages with thatched roofs, logs crackling in an open fire – it’s the perfect rural idyll, but common sense dictates that they are an explosive (or at any rate combustible) combination.
